Last night I fell to Earth. Twice. (I told you I was sick…)

Let me explain.

Yesterday started as a very pleasant day apart from this persistent bunged-up sinus, but I was sure I would be able to get through an evening shift with a bit of effort.

At around 10:30am a text arrived from the planning bods at work: “Would you like to take paid leave this afternoon? Please reply if so and await instructions….”

I replied. It was granted.

Soooo… what to do with a spare afternoon (bearing in mind I’d have to work the following day…) I sat on me arse and watched telly while playing computer games. Nothing too strenuous.

Around six o’clock I started feeling a tad tired. My feet started getting restless and I was beginning to drop off on the sofa. I felt that I needed to get some fresh air and exercise, so I put on my boots and stood up. And promptly collapsed in a heap.

Mother called 111 (the non-emergency emergency line) and they despatched an ambulance to take me to hospital.

While she was on the phone organising this, I managed to get back up on the sofa, a little unsteadily and a few minutes later I felt surprisingly chipper. Almost right as rain again.

By now my bladder decided that it wanted some attention, so I made my way to the stairs to go up to the loo.

I got up 3 stairs and decided that was high enough and turned round to head back to the couch. I made it half way before collapsing again, this time a little less decorously and with the added glamour of starting to cough up blood… (fortunately the blood came from a swollen sinus rather than anything more sinister)

A quarter of an hour later, the ambulance turned up and started to triage me before transporting me to the local A&E for further tests.

And that’s how I ended up spending last night on a trolley, in a corridor undergoing blood-test after repeated blood test until this morning, when I was treated to a chest X-ray, CT scan, urine sample and even more blood tests.

The results? I’ve got a bad viral infection (well, *DUH!*, but my lungs are clear and there’s very little else wrong in this 55-year-old body.

I’ve just got to go back on Friday so they can see if there’s anything else they’ve missed…

My name is Rob…

…and I’m a bit confused as to why anyone would find this remotely interesting. But here we are. My little corner of the Web whereby I lay out my thoughts like washing on a line. There for all to see, wafting in the summer breeze…
