Or “Let Me Eat Cake!”

Due to the fact that my imminent treatment will be draining me of a great amount of calories, especially as I’m going through a high intensity course, my dietitian has advised me that I should indulge myself with such delights as crème brulé, cheesecake, trifle, and basically anything high in calories, preferably dairy-based for the protein, and easily swallowed due to my upcoming lack of toothage.
I’ve also been prescribed a course of protein shakes, a number of which I have been sampling over the last few days. So far, Fortisip seems to be the nicest, and with the widest range of flavours.
The down side?
There will come a time when my throat is likely to be so sore that I can’t bear to swallow anything, but will still need those all-important calories. That’s where the feeding tube comes in.
It should be installed within the first couple of weeks of the treatment starting, although preferably before that, to allow for me (and mum) to be trained in its use and maintenance.
And no, it doesn’t go up my nose. That type is only used as a last resort if they can’t find a site to insert it directly through my abdomen into my stomach.
*Yeesh!*
I just hope my throat doesn’t get too sore…
